About Us

Hello, and welcome to Our Japan with Kids.

Our family in kimono in Tokyo

We travel as three generations: me, my mother, and my two daughters, born in 2020 and 2022. We live just outside Tokyo, in Yokohama.

Most English-language guides to Japan are written by people who visited for ten days. We live here — so what you’ll find on this site comes from ordinary weekends, school holidays, and the occasional trip that didn’t go to plan.

I’ve been writing about travelling with my daughters since they were babies — more than 600 posts over the past ten years, in Japanese. This site is where I share what we’ve learned, in English, for families coming to Japan from abroad.

What you’ll find here

  • Honest write-ups of places we’ve actually taken the girls
  • The practical details that matter with small children — whether a station has lifts, where to find a nursing room, how long a queue really takes
  • Travelling with grandparents and young kids at the same time
  • Day trips from Tokyo that most visitors never hear about
  • What we’d do differently next time

What you won’t find here: places we haven’t been, and recommendations we wouldn’t give a friend.

We hope it makes your trip a little easier.
